About NearMe

NearMe is a local discovery platform. Its purpose is to make it easier for people to find businesses, service providers, and shops that are physically near their current location. Results are ranked by distance — the closest relevant result appears first.

Our Story

NearMe came out of a fairly common frustration: finding a good local service through standard search tools is harder than it should be. Search engines return results from across the city, often prioritising businesses that have invested in SEO or paid advertising. Directories list outdated information. Social media is not designed for this kind of practical search.

So we built a platform that ranks by distance instead. A one-person repair shop and a chain store appear in the same search results — the one that's physically closer to you comes first. Ratings reflect what customers have actually experienced, not what the business has paid to project. The premise is that a business that's good and nearby should be findable without much effort.

What We Believe

  • Proximity is a more useful ranking signal than ad spend. When someone needs a service, the most relevant result is usually the one that's geographically closest.
  • Small businesses shouldn't need a marketing team to be found. A local bakery or repair shop should be visible to people nearby without having to compete for advertising budgets.
  • Reviews should reflect actual customer experience. The rating system is not influenced by promotions or sponsored content.
  • Finding a local service should take under a minute. The interface is built around that expectation.

What NearMe Does — and Does Not Do

NearMe is a discovery platform. It gives local businesses visibility so that nearby customers can find them, see what they offer, and read what other users have said about their experience.

NearMe does not endorse, certify, verify, or guarantee any vendor, product, or service listed on the platform. Reviews are submitted by users and are not independently verified by NearMe. Customers are responsible for evaluating any business before purchasing from them or hiring them for a service.

How NearMe Works

NearMe uses your device's GPS to calculate the actual distance between you and every vendor in our database. Results default to closest-first, with options to filter by category, rating, or keyword. Vendor profiles include product catalogues, service menus, business hours, customer reviews, and one-tap contact. Learn more on our How It Works page.

Our Technology

NearMe runs on a modern stack built for speed. Firebase handles authentication, real-time data, and hosting. OpenSearch delivers sub-second geospatial search across thousands of listings. The mobile app is built on React Native with Expo, and the web experience uses Next.js — lightweight, fast, and accessible from any device on any connection speed.

Why NearMe Exists

India has more than 63 million micro, small, and medium enterprises. Most of them have no digital presence. A skilled electrician, a tailor, or a catering operation can be excellent at what they do and still be difficult to find online because they haven't invested in search optimisation or advertising. Meanwhile, the people who would benefit from their services are relying on search engines that return city-wide results, many of which are out of date.

NearMe is built to address that specific gap. By combining location-based ranking with customer reviews, the platform helps local businesses become visible to the people most likely to use them — the ones physically nearby. Every listing is ranked by distance first, which means a small vendor gets the same opportunity for visibility as a larger business, provided they're closer to the person searching.
